Neu / Vertraut; St.Moritz CH
HAPPEN-projects asked designers to manipulate traditional Swiss Chairs (Stabelle) to create new objects for the exhibition "Neu / Vertraut" in St.Moritz, February - March 2013.
Here is couple of new objects, which were developed for the event:
Retino
This object takes the traditional forms of the hand crafted chair and adds a new seat, manufactured by modern CNC technology. The seat extendes the seating area, transforming the chair into a bench. Backrests can be arranged randomly by sliding them in the grid of sockets.
Pipistrello
The approach in Pippistrello adds a couple of steam-bent curves to the original structure. The additional beech parts lift the chairs front legs smoothly and add an armrest to its back part. It was developed durng a perfroamce at the exhibition site.
Jingle BANK
By adding two curved beechwood bands, an original Stabelle is transformed to become a rocking chair. A slot in the seat and a removable box underneath offer the possibility to use the chair as a piggy bank. Whilst rocking the chair, coins inside the box jingle to produce a sound similar to cowbells in the alps
Jingle bank rocks!
